Hello everyone,

It's been quite a while since our latest update. We took some time off during the holidays to spend some time with our families, but we come back with news and a sneak peek on the book. 

The PDF is finalized

We are happy to announce that the PDF of Dream City Knights is finally ready. So without further delays we would like to share with you parts of our book.

Character Creation

We tried to make character creation a quick but exciting experience for the players. We wanted to let you all dream right from the start. 

Apart from assigning the core focuses of your character, you will assign more personal details that have both a narrative and mechanical impact on your game.

The Big Dream will drive you through your adventures, and While I'm Cool will make you stand out with as a very distinct trait. With Your Personal Nightmare you assign your greatest fears that will work as a narrative tool at the hands of the Keymaster, but also will give you space to develop your character as they face their fears. Additionally, your character will make use of their Hobbies, assigning one with an Obsession - something they really put effort in - in order to succeed their tasks. Finally their Iconic Item will take shape in both worlds, supporting their actions and making sure they never fail. 

Hobbies

Each player character will certain areas of expertise that will help them succeed on their Moves called Hobbies. In Dream City Knights we wanted to make sure you can choose from a diverse range of Hobbies, making your character stand out among the others. They are used to modify your rolls or providing Momentum for when you succeed. There's a total of 25 Hobbies, but an experienced Keymaster may create more to suit the kind of Stories they want to tell. 

Here are some of them:

Keymaster Moves

In Dream City Knights, the orchestrator of the story, the Keymaster, is also one to partake in playing the game. We did not want the Keymaster to act only as a Referee but also as a player themselves. This is why the system provides them with Moves of their own, and guidelines in how to use them. We opted to differentiate these types of Moves into three distinct categories: Narrative Moves, Minor Consequence Moves and Major Consequence Moves. 


Nightmares

A great part of Dream City Knights is fighting off against Nightmares that have escaped the city of dreams in order to feed from the unsuspecting citizens of the Waking. They are living embodiments of the fears that lurk at darkest dreams of humanity.

We make sure to convey the feeling of nightmares and guidelines on how to create your own and how to provide with an enticing Nightmare Encounter that will haunt the players dreams.

Naturally, each District of the Dream City holds their own Nightmares for the Bunch to face.

Solo Play

Finally, we wanted to provide a chapter for players who prefer to play solo. While still using the mechanics of the main game, we provide additional tables and sources of inspiration to make a unique and emotional adventure.

Moving Forward

So "what are the next steps?" we hear you asking. As of now, we are still on track with the PDF's release date and maybe a few weeks behind with the final manufacturing. 

However, still a 25% of the backers have not finalized their pledges through backerkit. Please make sure to finalize your pledges because after that we won't be able to give you your rewards. We are planning to close the pledge manager around late February, so please follow the required steps and as soon as the pledge manager closes, everyone will receive their PDFs.

We are really happy that the RPG market has been expanding in our country. There are some amazing projects either coming soon or already on Kickstarter. So we would really like to make a shout out to these tremendous works:

From Black Lantern Productions comes a unique take on what it means to be a hero in ancient Greece with a huge 5e supplement.

Immortals: Hubris and Glory is a campaign setting set in a grim imagining of mythical ancient Greece, based on the 5e system with a number of dynamic changes unique to the setting.

There is no greater purpose for a Greek than to achieve immortality through his or her deeds. But beware, the path to heroic pantheon is strewn with thorns, steel, fire and blood. Slay beasts of myth, wretched servants of the Titans, and wrestle against the ire of the Gods in your quest for eternity.

Grim Tales 1 : The Blood Debt

From Yellowbyte Studios comes a zine filled with darkness and shadows.

Step into the shadowed corridors of Grim Tales Vol. 1: The Blood Debt, where dark fantasy and gothic horror intertwine to craft a tale of despair, hope, and heroism. ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch

After their first successful Kickstarter for EXORDIUM: Origins of Mythos, our friends over at the Eren Chronicles are running a new campaign for a project inspired by the grim, cautionary tales of Slavic and Balkan folklore!


ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch introduces heaps of new content. Immersive mechanics, more than 20 character options, over 65 monsters, spells, curses, ceremonies, folkloric relics and adventure locales sprung from the realm of myth are only a part of what this rustic setting has to offer. Moreover, everything is going to be compatible with a number of different TTRPG systems: namely D&D 5e, D&D 2024 and the Legend in the Mist RPG!

November Update: Pledge Manager going strong

Hello everyone, 

We are going to keep this one short. The book is 90% ready to go. We are just checking for minor details and possible mistakes, but the book is ready. 

Also, 62% of you have filled in your details on our pledge manager on Backerkit. That's good but we can do better! For those who still have not finalized their pledge on the pledge manager, check your emails and make sure you fill in the correct details.

As soon as the pledge manager reaches 100%, we will be able to lock all your orders, and even send out all the PDFs you've all been waiting for to get a first complete taste of Dream City Knights. 

Also, I would like to grab your attention on a brand new project our friends Yellowbyte Studios just launched on Kickstarter.

The Unsinkable is a 5e supplement that blends real historical events with cosmic horror.

October Update: Pledge Manager is now open!

September Update: Tags,Conditions and the character creation process

Hello everyone! 

We are happy to announce that the layout process of the book is moving forward very smoothly. Today we would like to share some of the rules regarding Tags and Conditions, as well to give you an idea of how the character creation process works. 

Tags & Conditions

We wanted a simple way to keep track of how Moves are affected when trying something. If something was easy to do, it would give the player a tipper and if something is more difficult than usual, the Difficulty Margin increases. So we incorporated a way to fit the narrative in the measurement of difficulty by introducing Tags: Special keywords that briefly describe something, either an item, a situation or a creature. 

Similarly, Conditions are introduced to the game in order to keep track of lasting effects that do not necessarily affect the difficulty of a task, but instead provide more freedom on their effects. We also modified how  Grounded & Stressed work and added Injuries.

Character Creation

We wanted to provide a smooth and simple, yet interesting character creation process. We focused on the more narrative aspects of the game and made sure to provide examples to spark your imagination. 

We are really looking forward to see what kind of characters you create!

A few final words

The biggest part of layout is almost complete and we are happy to announce that the pdf will most probably be ready in a month and you will soon be able to enjoy Dream City Knights with your friends.
